Hi Everyone!

I'm looking forward to hosting our Holiday baking event this year. Last year was a great success and I know we all enjoyed the variety of cookies. For those of you new to this, here is the basic outline of what happens.

On December 12 this year, we meet at my place to bake for the afternoon. Everyone plans on making a couple cookie recipes (or more depending on how ambitions/complicated they are) over the course of a few hours. We eat, we bake, we drink whatever and order pizza. At the end of the day, everyone takes home a selection of each cookie made.

To keep it somewhat organized, when replying to the Evite please mention the types of cookies you'll be making in order to minimize duplicates. Also choose a staple item to bring (flour, sugar, etc) from the Evite menu so that everyone doesn't have to bring all the same things. When we know how many people and what types of cookies we will finalize the amounts.

Below I suggest a list of kitchen utensils and materials to bring, as I have what I need for my house and a few spare, but not quite enough for all of us. I have two large tables (one for prep, the other for cooling). We had plenty of space last year. Also, the interior size of my oven racks is 23" x 16", if anyone has that size then bring them along. We could use an extra set.

Spouses and others are welcome. Justin will play games with whomever is willing to sit in front of the TV or play in front of a card table.
  • cookie sheet pans/loaf pans/cake pans (whatever you need for your recipes)
  • cooling racks
  • baking utensils (spatulas, measuring cups, etc.)
  • KitchenAid/mixer (possibly some extension cords, my outlet to KitchenAid ratio may not be adequate)
  • decoration supplies ( sprinkles, icing, colored sugars, etc., if needed)
  • mixing bowls
  • storage containers for baked cookies (to take home your goodies!)
  • parchment, silicone bake mats
Feel free to comment here and offer up suggestions, advice etc. I hope you all can make it!

Recipes I am planning:
Almond Crescents
1 cup of butter, room temperature
2/3 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of almond extract
2 1/2 cups of flour
1 cup of fine ground almonds
1/4 cup of powdered sugar for sprinkling

Makes 2 1/2 dozen cookies.

Orange Spritz
1 1/3 C butter , softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 egg yolk
1/4 C tablespoons orange juice
3/12 C all-purpose flour
1 tsp orange rind grated

Makes 4 dozen or so? This dough is best if I refrigerate it overnight (which means I will bring dough).

Peanut butter candy - mix first ingredients, melt chocolate on stove or in microwave and pour over. cool, cut into bars.
1 1/2 cups margarine or butter, melted
2 cups peanut butter
4 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup margarine or butter
2 cups Sweet chocolate chips

I have boatloads of confectioner's sugar - which I signed up for. I also have choc chips, vanilla, graham crackers, P butter, almond extract, almonds, sprinkles. I also have a spritz cookie gun.

Please bring the spritz cookie gun. I would like to use it if I can!

Thanks!

I'll comment here, since Kim put me down as a +1.

is anyone doing plain ol' sugar cookies yet? I'm doing benne wafers (with sesame seeds), but I also wanted to do something I could decorate. if no one's taking the bait I'd like to claim 'em.
